Bird Box Camera System Details

The Cedar nest box is available in the following options:

We have been making Bird Box Camera Systems for over 10 years and during that time we have evolved and developed our systems incorporating the latest electronics to give the best viewing experience, while ensuring the the nesting environment of the birds is never compromised.

We use high quality brand name components, they cost a little more but pay for themselves in the long run, hence we can offer a 3 year warranty. Our wireless system comply with the radio transmission laws, we only use 2.4Ghz, cheaper 1.2Ghz are illegal in the UK. Our Digital systems are "True" digital with 80 channel, paired and will automatically change channels to ensure interference free receiption. Beware of multi-channel analogue systems masquerading as digital, they are not, they split the analogue band into more channels and cause poor reception, if they are 8 or more channel analogue they are designed for drones, not quality wireless Audio Video bird box systems. True digital will have 80 channels.

Our boxes are made from cedar with the camera installed in the roof looking down at the nesting area and produces a live video and audio of what is happening in the bird box. Our systems includes all the necessary cables and transformers to connect the them to a TV or video recorder. Pictures can also be viewed on a computer using a suitable AV capture device.

The cameras are low light cameras and use infrared light to see in total darkness. The infrared light is invisible to the naked eye, harmless to the birds and does not disrupt their natural day-night, light-dark cycles. It avoids the need to put artificial light into the bird box which will disturb the birds.

Cedar is our preferred wood for the bird boxes as it's an excellent thermal insulator, long lasting and naturally weather resistant with no need for harmful preservatives. Cedar has an attractive appearance and will weather naturally needing little maintenance other than cleaning the bird box after each nesting season.

All our bird boxes are safe and non-toxic, no stains, preservatives or wood treatments are used. Our bird boxes are designed not only to attract many different species for nesting, but to offer shelter and protection during winter too.

The bird boxes are built to RSPB and BTO specifications with floors specially cornered to provide drainage should any water get inside. The sides are vented at the top to provide air circulation and one side is hinged for easy cleaning and monitoring. The bird box is screwed together with galvanised screws for extra strength, durability and a quality finish. No nails, no pins, no glue.

The bird boxes are available with four different sizes of entrance hole to attract several different species of birds:

  • 25mm (1 inch) hole to attract: Blue Tit, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit, Tree-creeper and very small birds.
  • 28mm (1 1/8 inches) hole to attract: Tree Sparrows, Great Tit, Crested Tit and Blue Tit.
  • 32mm (1 1/4 inch) hole to attract: Tree Sparrow, Great Tit, Crested Tit, Nuthatch and Pied Flycatcher.
  • 38mm (1 1/2 inch) hole to attract: Redstarts and larger birds
The bird box is 30cm (12 inches) high (43cm/17inches including fixing batten), 17cm (6 3/4 inches) wide and 13cm (5 inches) deep and made from 20mm (3/4 inch) thick fresh untreated cedar. The bird box is screwed together with galvanised screws for extra strength, durability and a quality finish.
